Last Week of March

This is going to be an extra long post so bear with me here; I'm going to be reflecting on the last couple days of March.

Lydia and her father drove up to San Jose from LA to visit. I haven't seen them in 2 years since they last came to the States. They're family moved from Thailand to LA when Lydia was in third grade. We all went out to eat for dinner to catch up. At a restaurant in Cupertino, we had a lot to eat and the food was all delicious.

After an awesome dinner and discussing the differences between Thailand culture and American culture, which by the way is very interesting to hear about(They don't have any Mexican food there). I kind of wanted to go get some Pearl Milk Tea, luckily my mother wanted to get some pastries so we drove a couple minutes to the Joy Luck Palace Plaza to get some pastries and pearl tea from Fantasia. The PMT was really good, I remember not knowing what it was and not thinking that it tasted very good because the first account of me trying milk tea was when Sandy made me drink a Taro flavored one and I was not very fond of it. I think it definitely takes some time to get used and after drinking it you become accustomed
to its taste.

*Skipping days

Studying for Friday's Calc Test and stressing over grades, so theres nothing else to do but bake! I baked some homemade chocolate chip cookies and they were absolutely delicious. I need to start dieting haha I've been baking every couple weekends. I used to be bad at baking these cookies because for some reason every time that I tried to make them they would turn out really dark, but I think that was only because with the light on the cookies still looked uncooked. My grandfather made the best cookies for us when he would come to visit us from Michigan. Anyway, the recipe is just the Nestle Chocolate Chip Cookies modified with only 1 cup of chocolate chips instead of 2.

Tuesdays are the days I "run" with Christina, every time we try to go running we always end up talking and catching up since Tuesdays is really the only day we see each other. This week we actually ran a little bit; she wanted to show me something so we ran towards Harry Rd. across the bridge and stopped. Christina showed me this awesome place on the creek with this huge tree; with the creek water running and the wind blowing it was so peaceful. I think I might go there and just meditate someday.

Last week varsity ended up running "The Hill" which is a 5 mile road that starts from school and circles back around. Edena wanted to run and I kind of wanted to do it again too. So Kate, Eden, and I started off jogging lightly and then started walking until Annemarie and Sanam showed up and we ended up walking together. At one point we got so thirsty that we picked fruit off someone's tree in their front yard and tried eating them(they were lemons).

No pics because my phone started freaking out and died on me, but after the Sobrato meet Gemma, Lauren and I ended up going to La Vic's and Yogurtland, because Lauren really wanted to get food. Her mom is so chill and super nice. It was my first time going to La Vic's and I actually really enjoyed it; I've had Iguana's and Chipotle but I personally think that La Vic's is really good. The burritos are about the same price as Chipotle's but are more satisfying. After we went next door for fro-yo. They had Irish Creme(mint) was exceptional and of course I covered my yogurt in mochi. Mochi is the only thing that I put on my yogurt haha its the best.

Anyway those were the last couple days that I wanted to write about since they were actually interesting. I've been wanting to vlog, but my life is so mundane that I doubt anyone would watch it because there would be nothing interesting. Furthermore, editing and school, not to mention the fact that I'm still stuck on imovie '09 blerghhhh.

60's Inspired

Jacket: Old Navy
Crop Top: Forever 21
Velvet Skater Skirt: 2C
Shoes: Bongo

Just a simple outfit I wore, inspired by 1960's fashion. Shoutout to Christina for being my empathetic photographer and if you look closely on the left side of the picture you can see Sydney judging me, also don't mind the flyaway hair.
Just a couple of candids taken by Christina.

Post Full of Food

This weekend has been my opportunity to wind down and relax. Sydney and I had wanted to do a cooking challenge since summer, but we never got around to it so we decided that this weekend we would go ahead and make an attempt. Of course plans changed and we ended up making lunch(not timed) because Sydney's parents had already made a plan to go out to dinner. After Chinese school, I headed over to her house and we started making our lunch. On the menu we had a Chicken Alfredo pasta, a Caesar salad, and Mini wonton tacos.

Sydney and I were quite pleased with what we accomplished and it all tasted really good. The tacos were delicious but hurt a little to eat, because the tips got hard and would poke you in the mouth. After lunch we went upstairs to experiment with makeup. Personally I do not wear makeup for 3 reasons; 1) I want people to see me "naturally" without any kind of enhancements, 2) I don't want other people to realize that I look weird without makeup if I don't wear it(girls that usually wear makeup that don't some days), and 3) My parents won't let me. Sydney and I were trying to figure out how we were going to do our makeup for prom; it was quite hilarious, because when Sydney's mom tried to put eyeshadow on Sydney, Sydney started freaking out(she isn't used to wear lots of makeup). It was very comical; when she told me to put some on, I applied the liquid eyeliner like a pro. Sometimes when I get bored and I don't have much to do I like to experiment and practice with makeup, of course I have no idea how blush or foundation or concealer or eyeshadow or any of that stuff works, but I think I've nailed the liquid liner.

After we did our makeup, I went with Sydney's family to dinner. We ended up going to Ariake Sushi(I was ecstatic ^_^). I always feel strange when I go to dinner with other family's because I never know what to order. So I decided to play it safe and order a simple inexpensive dish, the Takki Maki. It said that it included 6 rolls and was only $3.15; I figured that if I didn't eat to fast I would be able to be full. But when the dish came it was so small and I finished it in less than 5 minutes. It was delicious, but not very filling. After I had finished my rolls and Sydney had finished hers we sat there meekly at the rest of the food that; 2 orders of shrimp tempura rolls hadn't arrived yet and being polite I couldn't just finish up the sushi that was left. Sydney's mom saw that we had finished and we were still hungry so she told us to go grab something off of the boats that carried sushi. When I first sushi boats a couple of years ago I thought it was so clever and cute and made it easy for customers to grab whatever they liked. Being the indecisive person I am I didn't choose anything until the boats went around a couple of times. I had to consider the price of the rolls and it's contents; In the end I chose a roll with roe, avocado, crab meat, salmon and strange sweet, but spicy sauce.

It was very delicious, although I might have enjoyed it more without the sauce, but nonetheless I finished it in a timely manner. Of course after finishing those plates Sydney and I were still quite famished, so we decided to get another order or what we originally ordered. I got another Takki Maki and Sydney got another I Love You Roll. All in all it was very delicious dinner, and I will definitely be going back again, especially because on the back of Safeway receipts there is always a 15% off coupon and I can never pass up a good deal. After dinner we returned back to Sydney's house and we made ice cream. Yes I repeat we made ice cream, I put York Peppermint pieces in mine, while Sydney had Reese's. You essentially put ice and rock salt in a bag and then in a separate bag put heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and whatever toppings. You place the ice cream bag(zipped up) inside of the ice bag, zip up that bag and shake it all together for 10 minutes. Your hands get really cold, but it makes the ice cream taste that much bette, because you made it yourself. After ice cream, Sydney and I watched Runner Runner with Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, and Gemma Arterton(6/10 just because of the actors, the movie didn't really have a plot), Dance Moms (I feel so bad for the kids in that show) and Myrtle Manor(essentially a bunch of ratchet, white trash people). In total the hangout was a success.

These Darn Allergies

This week has been pretty chill. I decided going to morning practice with Gemma to get a couple extra hours of practice in the day and I think it has been doing me some good. I go to sleep way earlier on Mondays and Tuesdays(around 9ish) so that I have about 7 or 8 hours of sleep still. Before I started going to mornings I thought Gemma was crazy for wanting to wake up at 5 and practice when instead you could be sleeping, but now I am seeing the appeal.

Tuesday // Thursday Morning
4:45 AM - Wake up / Get ready (eat, etc)
5:00 AM - Go to practice w/ Gemma
5:12 AM - Weight Room
6:15 AM - Get in pool
6:45 AM - Shower and get dressed for school
7:15 AM - Arrive home to eat another quick breakfast
7:28 AM - Leave for school

It is strange coming to school and seeing everyone so groggy-eyed and tired, while thinking about how my day started about 2 hours earlier. When I get home I'm pretty energetic from practice, but by 2nd period I start dozing out. On Thursday, I put my head on the desk to rest, but kept jerking myself awake because I didn't want Asplund to do something to me. Furthermore, when I woke up on Thursday I ate the chocolate mint cookie crunch balance bar and it was especially delicious.

I even got a reply from the company when I tweeted it in the morning. It literally tastes like the thin mint Girl Scout cookies, but chewier and not as crumbly. It's one of my must-haves for a workout day.

This week has been horrible concerning allergies. Ever since daylight savings I have been sneezing constantly with watery eyes. I couldn't fall a sleep at night because I COULDN'T BREATHE. I thought it was just losing an hour that messed me all up but nope, it was all my allergies.

Friday has the meet day and to be honest, I have no idea what Eric is thinking putting me in fly; it makes no sense and we don't even train stroke at practice so I have no way of practicing it. Anyway this week this girl at practice has been nice to me lately; I always assumed she didn't like me. When I first saw her my first impression was that she was really pretty, and the first day of pre-national she told me she thought that I was pretty and all I could think was "You are ridiculously pretty." Anyway I think maybe she's starting to respect me more because I've been going to practices more.

Weekly Crush //

My friend Anita has been suggesting me to watch the show Supernatural for a while now. I've always been a little confused with this show, confusing it with the show Smallville. Since it is my school's "winter break" this week, I decided there was no real harm in watching a couple of episodes. I have to say that this show reminds me of the show Ghostwhisperer. Which is also a good show by the way. Anywho, the show is about 2 brothers who start out looking for their father, who mysteriously vanishes while on the search for a supernatural being that murdered his wife(their mother), and battle other metaphysical beings along the way. It is not too bad, and so far from what I have seen(4 episodes LOL) there isn't particularly much drama(teen drama). I also have to say that Dean(left) is quite the attractive bachelor.

Lately I've been really into more soul / house / beat music. Music that doesn't have too many lyrics in it. This song above especially has a pretty awesome jazz vibe to it.

This song is an absolute gem. I found it a couple of weeks ago, but did really get around to posting it on here, and recently they finally made a music video for it. Take a listen I guarantee you will like it.

Recently I watched Endless Love, I have been a fan of Alex Pettyfer since I saw I am Number Four and I really enjoyed his acting and this movie. My latest celeb crush is Gabriella Wilde. She comes from an aristocratic family in England and started her career as a model and pursued a course in art while modeling. She then started her acting debut, and I have to say she does a very convincing American accent. I've always wondered how you would go about doing an American accent.

This has been another week of movies and in addition to Endless Love I decided to watch the 2006 classic John Tucker Must Die. I have to say its a pretty good, classic "chick flick." Brittany Snow and Arielle Kebbel are both in it and Brittany is just so adorable. The other actress Sophia Bush is in the film as well and for some strange reason she looks very familiar but I can't seem to place where I've seen her before; I think she was in another movie but I can't tell what movie it is.
